pretend

pretend
so as not to frighten
the trees

hide behind
books
and
blank expression
and leaves

willow leaves
guide
as you look up to the sky

scare yourself silly
by riding a ride
too high
and jiggley
with a six year old
who is brave

shave the ratty edge off yourself
by breathing deep
let the fray be
and embrace it
a big mauve hug with sauce

eat the wrong things
in the wrong way
be an anarchist
or an antiquarian

be old and new

pretend yellow is blue
