outlandish word

there was an outlandish word on the wall
my husband got a cup and a notebook
and took it outside
to be free

this day

i opened the door

was shown several card tricks by young illustionsists
i suggested a rabbit
while listening to abba

Sasha, the parrot
payed close attention

as i stitched together a book of love

i sweept
and mopped
and tidied the cookbooks

i drank milky strong tea
brought to me by my sweeties

i read a book on art history

picked up the phone

realized that it is true
the talking heads are wonderful

discovered the association with mixed emotions

shared my lunch

closed the door

This week's theme at is "tranquility". I thought of this old illustration that I did for a picture book that I wrote and illustrated (yet to be published). It is young me, lost in the happy and tranquil act of threading cut up straws onto a string to make a necklace. Please click on image for a bigger and better view.

under trees at the beach

big cooking pot of ideas,
things go in and surface
at the top,
slotted spoon ready to skim
off sludge
wind blows, rustle through leaves,
cooling, letting ideas rise
gently to the surface,
a delicate fizzy bubble drink

by myself on a bench at
the waters edge
to the shore and out
across the great big lake
little spark plugs in the mind,
sticks found and rubbed together
consistent inconsistent
the big soup pot boiling away

time divided, noted, arranged
criss cross our lifes
over giant landscapes,
taking planes, trains automobiles
hopping and hoping and walking
strokes towards and away
and the even greater landscape of our mind,

individual, collective,
search for commonalities
sameness- comfort in the eyes of another
in the touch
bound in silky string thoughts
to each other
casting our psyhic nets
over around about

so sad it hurts and so happy it flys
at the very same time,
regard for the detail for the sameness
and the delicious differences

mostly savouring the moments
without force
either holding or giving
but just letting

sending winged hearts out
of the chest, knees, feet, mind, hands, ears
-and also flashlights
to find those very same winged hearts
when needed most
in the pitch

kisses, gentle touch, fond hellos
goodbyes and inbetweens
let it fly
let it rain

great leaps

it is funny what scares us. let me be frank and tell you it is things I can not see.
nothing mechanical or emotional but stuff that like magic works or doesn't on the computer.
I have a bit of a backward forward upside down problem. in the physical world it makes going down stairs hard. in the literary world the proper spelling of words. my fear involves doing learning new things on my computer, things that may be simple but seem so invisible mysterious and frightening. today I made a leap, I dove in and didn't let the technical road block up ahead get in the way. I woke early and got to work, making no excuses of the heat or fatigue or small animals or the needs of small children get in the way. I did yoga first to gear up, see how cluttered my mind is how stiff my limbs. and I did it. A simple thing really, but blasted away with sweat and concentration and fear in the gut. I feel happy and good and tired and clear, sometimes walking slow just doesn't do it although it usually does. Today happily I took a great leap....And landed safely.

sad news

my heart goes out to those in London...
i am always a little slow to get the news, as i avoid it much of the time, the big stuff always eventually trickles down for me to know of it. such sad news. i am reminded by this for my own actions that "peace in every step" is a very important way of being.

troubles in an old kit bag...

My computer isn't feeling well, and poor Esmerelda (the computer) doesn't seem to recognize her good friend Ralphie (the scanner). This malady makes posting images very difficult. Hopefully poor Esmerelda will recover she is a strong Mac and I am hopeful. We will try rehabilitating her with some holistic medicines and if that doesn't work we will keep searching to find a cure . Please send your regard and well wishes, it can only help.

where is the rain?

it didn't arrive
the rain that is
the sun mocks me
okay yes we can not be with out you
but really do you have to gloat
i am so over exposed
i now squint
like something is wrong
i am wearing my hat
and dark sunglasses
but still
at the end of the day
i feel so full
of sun and heat and sounds and sensations
it is like the sun eclipses
my reason, ability to think
and leaves me washed out
and limp like a lettuce leaf
i feel better knowing i am not alone
with this reverse too much light unlightness
glenn gould had it and hide
and so does maggie
that feels more like it
dark shade
burgundies and greys
and caves

here comes the rain

i think today will rain
it is my most very favorite weather
colours sing in it
and it is cooler
and dull
and has a lovely quiet
here it comes
i am hoping
here comes the rain
