flowery lady

flowery lady
Originally uploaded by Kim's Suitcase.
My wee Mama returns from her southern migration flight.

A flowery lady in her own right keeping houseplants green and smiling for years and years.

I was the temporary greenhouse guru along with Uncle Ug.

Together most of the green plants stayed that way.

Welcome back sweet little Mama.

at the museum

at the museum

I am currently making fabric, touchy-feely cards.
Some of the fabric isn't really there it is only a print on paper and some is...the cards require our sense of touch to fully "see" them.

Recently my friend Kathleen said, adults buy the books for children with all the touchy-feely bits, because children like them...why do adults have no fun...

good question...

we are sensory, sensual creatures
touch is good

in the adult world there seems to be an expectation to live in our heads to use our intellects...what about play? touch? taste? smell?

pastel shoes

pastel shoes

a funny thing happened on the way to work yesterday...i didn't go..

i skipped off.
didn't arrive at my desk,
and i almost fired myself

i did sadly optain a sad case of sun stroke

in my haze of drunken sun and breeze
no booze just rays of warm

i wandered downtown,
these shoes who i hadn't meet
whispered my name
and had me travel west
to bloor and yonge

i searched for language learning japanese books
and shoes

strains of classical chinese music
lured me in and the $9.99 sign
outside balanced on one foot
i slipped out of heavy black clogs
winter is finished my friend
i want bright
i want light
i need pastel easter egg-like shoes
don't you
doesn't everyone

well no,
any way

the nice man sold me shoes of two different sizes
it was one of those days
when everything glowed
and the breeze felt nice
against leg
knee socked

stopping to take in a tea
i realized the mistake
and got two shoes of the same size

i know a tad conservative

drunken of sun and breeze
no booze

i returned home no japanese language learning tools

but shoes

Mama's Home Spa

...just for the day
focus on spring cleaning
little elbow crevices
and too long toe nails

then get inside
renovate the cobwebs
in the mind

a large and efficient breeze
to blow out the old stale ideas
that say "your not good enough"
and pipe in sweet music and sounds
that sing and ring to the tune
"your just right as you are"

by far this is the best house cleaning
one can do

These felt pins and touchy-feely cards(with real sewn fabric and stitching), will soon be available at a new shop in Portland, Maine. The store with the delighful name of "Edith & Edna", features traditional and contemporary hand-made goods.

(If in Portland, please visit it for me and say "hi".
I believe the store is launching its opening in May.
It is located at 51 Exchange Street.)

Speed

Speed fabric collage card
Originally uploaded by Kim's Suitcase.

from my series of one of a kind fabric collage cards,
a recycled illustration fitting for the theme at illustration friday this week which is 'speed'.

I have a button which is sort of a mantra for me, "Conserve Energy do every thing as slow as possible"

I like turtles, and snails and not being rushed! On my clunker wonderful heavy metal raleigh one speed bicycle i have a bumper sticker that reads "it's a speed thing, you wouln't understand".

Magical Underpants and the Swivel Chair

Briefs needed for this trip
I creep into brothers clean laundry
'cause those jockeys are what i need

for my trip to the moon
helmet for outer space travel

kitchen swivel chair
on its side, golden and yellow and super fast

underwear on head
hands on sides bracing
for take off

...here we go
crayola smell fills the memory map as i soar

as i see the giant moon dog wag by

gleeful rocketing
to other worlds
with a swivel chair
and a pair of clean underwear

here comes the Martian Mama
and her
vacuum dog
floating
it is her
terry cloth
slippers
that allow
crater walks
in
shag
and
copper broadloom

suddenly the need for nourishment
the space food snack that i didn't forget to pack

my fingers work to open the tiny red raisin box
completely tricky as
the rocket ship avoids an asteroid
and on i go
consulting the crayola map

a safe landing
and Daddy walks in

smelling of distant lands
of freshest bread
and icing sugar
painted up
with blue and green
a dab of yellow

looking tired and pleased

back on earth
i take up the offer
of a sandwich
made on rye with kimel
caraway
i get carried away

what did you bring me?

a shiny ruby ring,
a tiara for a queen,
a hallah loaf,
six blueberry buns
and a sandwich,
on rye

pillow pocket karma

pillow pocket karma
Originally uploaded by Kim's Suitcase.
I loved this old apron that I found while hunting for used fabrics, it is so soft and the pattern is so joyful. I keept the pocket intact.

Did this apron ever think it would one day be a pillow? Karma is like that I think.

I like to think of the notion of having a pocket that one puts things in and it changes. Can you imagine a cheese and pickle sandwich after being emersed in the pocket becoming a paper back novella?
