Here i sit
straight back against teak
feet rest on rust carpet
placemat placed
and
box of tubes with filters
turquoise blue ribbed plastic box
square, white lid
tabacco
Belvedere Light? Maybe.
and the machine to make them
cheery red, dark, lux
metal. like a luxury automobile
knob round black
i put the tabacco inside
the little metal ditch like chamber
put a tube to the mouth of the
machine
and let the knob into my 9 year old palm
following the river
towards cigarette making
Mum checks my progress
as I drift off in delicious smells
of cold fresh tabacco
rust, yellow, earthy,
"is this okay?'
i ask
"hmmh a little too loose"
oh, too loose
and this-too tight
and this-not even enough
until i get it just right
how many?
20
hows that?
thanks
my first craft
ceremonous cigarette making
in which i never test the product
happy to be making
sitting
focusing
working with hands
raw material
making something
intimate
that matters
a good smoke
